Status Updates..

The G is away and wont be back until the weekend. So I have been driving myself crazy, wondering how I will spend the nights. As sundown approaches, the fear is slowly beginning to border on paranoia. But for now I will think of happy things. There are several things on my mind, mostly unrelated and hence this is going to be a bullet post.
#1. Strange, how subservient we become to human companionship. There was a time when I would go for days without talking to anyone and never even realize. I was happy. I was content. But marriage has impaired that part of me. I thought I was looking forward to some lone time by myself but really, it feels pretty dismal. And as the sun goes down, I`m beginning to feel a little tingle in my heart. I`m making mental notes..you know..lock the back door, keep the front lights on, close the kitchen window, pull down the shades of the den, remember to take the knife to bed etc etc. Last time when The G was away, I had decided to hole up in a motel. Some found it strange..even weird. But trust me, I was comfortable. But this time we are having The G`s friends over for 3 days during the weekend and I have tons of work to do. And moreover, at some point I have to grow up. So here I am, by myself. I guess I`ll be just fine.. hmm..
#2. The D.C trip was great, the high point being a visit to the Holocaust Museum. It deserves an entire post and so I wont mention much - except that it was a very solemn, overwhelming experience. After a four-hours sojourn inside the museum, I sat there by myself at the Hall of Remembrance and heard an old woman recite the names of the victims one by one and saw the flame burning. And then I thought of all the hate and the alienation in today`s world and the gruesome aftermath of it all (be it the Middle East or Darfur or be it my own country), and I realized that nothing has changed. We have learnt nothing from History. I sat there for a moment to reflect. I said a silent prayer and called out their names, all those who disappeared and never came back. And I thought, I will still  keep my faith and I will keep my flame burning. In spite of everything, Oh please let us all keep the flame burning..
#3. Spring is here, People! And it is just so beautiful! The sky is so blue. The flowers are blooming. Bright colored children flock together under the April sun and I want to sing out aloud. One look at these pictures and you`ll know why.

#4. Simon & Garfunkel have a reunion Spring tour and they`ll be here in the Twin cities on the 8th of May! The G got us tickets for the concert. It was supposed to be a birthday surprise(4rth May, if anyone wants to wish!!), but I found out somehow! :):) I`m still so, so excited about it. Imagine! I grew up listening to these guys. I share so many fond memories. And now I will be listening to them live!! :):) Not only them, Joan Baez in July and tada!!(For Sagarika especially) ROGER WATERS (The Wall Tour - and his last) on Oct27th!! Yes!! LIVE!!!!
(For the uninitiated, Roger Waters is The God I worship. Of Pink Floyd fame)
#5. Lastly, I wish to thank each one of you who sent in best wishes before the grad school interview. Looks like I made it through this time :):) I received an acceptance letter and I`ll be starting school this fall, after all :) Life suddenly seems to have taken a start!

hi! :)

#1: so true! we all get conditioned - regardless of our age to live a certain way and its so hard to adjust otherwise na?

#2: its sad when you realize that nothing has changed...but then again maybe it is this awareness that has changed and that will be passed on to the future generation...it will take a while; change is slow in this huge population of ours...but im sure it will come eventually!

#3: those are lovely pics!!! such pretty flowers! :)

#4: ok have not heard of a single name uve said...now i don't know if that makes me super young or just not much of a music admirer? :S

#5: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :) im sooo happy you got in where you wanted!

CONGRATULATIONS. Mish, I want a party, a big one and I mean it. So so so proud of you. You are one brainy bird, and i was sure you will rock. :D

The photos are gorgeous gorgeous, gorgeous, did not know you were into it.... really!

Knowing your passion for music, I am sure you are super thrilled, and you are a Taurean? No wonder so strong willed n smart!

And as for the being alone bit, you have to get over the fear, and no one but you yourself can do it for yourself. And yes, we do get conditioned for companionship, i am already feeling sad that the GP won't be here next week!

Sunshine: Thank you so much Kiddo! And what??? dont kids these days listen to Floyd anymore??? :(:( Well, they are the Gods of Psychedelic Rock.

Goof: aww..you`re always so generous with your comments! I`m not into photography - i just happen to own a good camera, that`s all! And a Taurean bull is typically who I am - dont know about the smart bit though :):)

Chatterbox: Hey..I love the pictures too :) It`s such a surprise to see them come out so well :)

Reflections : Thank you so much Nancy :) I`m thrilled too, that I will soon be starting school, instead of sitting at home all day and waiting for The G to come back! :):)

Anonymous: Okay, so now you have me scratching my head! How presumptuous of me to assume you were a guy :) but looks like you`re not. You`ve gotta be kidding me!!! I DONT KNOW ANYONE personally who is not familiar with either S&G, Joan Baez or Floyd!!!! So email me right away and tell me who you are :):)

U know what - i started off feeling sorry for you and thoguhts shall put in nice comforting words... then after the teaser I want to be so wicked that I wanna tell you that there'll be Calvin's monster under your bed tonight! And yes it'll rain and there'll be thunderstorms too.. branches knocking on widow panes!!!! ... Of all days u had to tease me with that today.. and life couldn't seem more worse... The last tour n I'm here rotting!!!!

P.S: It's ok the thunder storm wont be ther.. the rain too... but the monster yes it'll be there ... u hate me? :P

Sagarika said...

Can G come to India and I be there???? just for the show I mean??? I'll be better company promise (looking at you with doleful and the bestest puppy eyes)

Piper .. said...

MRC: Nah! Just thought I should give this a try. Anyway, I`ll have to be on my own from Sept onwards, as The G is going to be away for almost 4 months :(:( Work related travel!

Sagarika: :):) thank God I didnt read your comment last night! :):) It`s bright and sunny now - no monsters can scare me!! :):) Come over in Oct! It`ll be awesome! :)

Congratulations on the admittance letter.. Wohoo... 2 years of grad school.. have fun!
For Human Companionship..... I completely agree. I remember when SD used to travel for work, i would be doing everything possible to be out of the house, Meet my girl friends, hit the gym. Anything to be occupied.
I like Holocaust museum a lot as well And yes, we have not learned anything from history. But, i was very upset when I came out of it. It showed me a reality which I had only read or seen and not felt it.
aaah! Spring.. It better not rain!!!

Sagarika said...

Ya I'll be there in Oct.. just look under the bed to find me :D .... Btw have mailed you my (is)special wishes ;p! Way to Go! Muah! :)...

Jira said...

Congrats for getting through!!! Great news! The spring flowers look lovely against the sun !!!

So true that once we get used to companionship, it is hard to be alone. You take a knife to bed?!!! ok, that can be a tip for when i am alone :)

Lets' at least hope that we'll never again let another Hitler walk this earth...

Piper .. said...

GNSD: Guess what? We have rains in the forecast over the weekend! That notwithstanding, it is one of the happiest times of the year, isnt it? :) I know what you mean about the museum. It had the same effect on me. I couldnt go anywhere else that day..

Sagarika: You are NOT to distort my name, Girl! :):) Although 'piprey' sounds okay, I quite like 'Piper', thank you very much!! :):)

Jira: Thank you my friend! I`m looking forward to starting school! And yes, I did take a knife to bed - but that was because I have managed to misplace my precious pepper spray! :):) And about HItler, it doesnt make a difference whether there`s another one like him or not. Look at what`s happening all across the globe and you`ll see why.. :(:(

Amrita said...

Oh I so understand how as human beings get so used to people.. take care dear... hope the time away from him passes away soonie soon :)
I was a wreck when one time K went for 2 days and now see its been 2 months since hes gone... acclimatisation is wht humans are best at...
Awaiting ur post on the museum trip.
Did read your post on your daddy, was too over whelmed to respond :( hmm .. hope you are doing better now friend!

And congratssssssssss on resuming schoooollll... WOWWWW!! Awesome :)

Piper .. said...

Amrita: Thanks a lot for the wishes! I can relate to what you say. It is all about acclimatization. After two months of marriage, I had to return back to India because the army still hadn't sanctioned my release. And I spent the next year or so, living a long-distance marriage! But somehow, even if it nearly killed me, I still managed :)Hopefully, things shall be okay with you too :)

Beautiful pictures... spring is such a treat, and especially in that part of the world, after having lived with whites, and lack of greens, for an extended period.

Wow!! Congrats on all the good news :-) And you're absolutely right, how we get so dependent on human companionship. You'll be fine, don't worry. Infact try to enjoy the solitude ;-)))

Hey Piper.......CONGRATULATIONS....by the time i post this comment your G would be back...funny, the other day was wanting to do a post on the same thought..Joe was away for a day and the silence that pervailed at home was so surreal. It scares me everytime when I realize how entwined our lives have become, and how dependent I have got on him emotionally, what with the empty nest.On a lighter note..everything was in place for a day, no crisis on missing reading glasses etc. etc.....

Sagarika said...

I know you are busy, but still couldn't resist tagging you for a post... do take it up :D
